Industry-recognized credentials offer construction leaders a reliable, standardized way to verify what people know when hiring and assigning work. But despite their growing use, there is surprisingly little research that has examined how the construction workforce itself views credentials.

The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) sought to understand how credentials function in construction careers and the value placed on them by the workforce. Research findings indicate that credentials are valuable, shared standards of competence across the industry and help document preparation and support career pathways over time.
