Eligibility and Requirements
Eligibility
Eligibility for the NCCER Certified Construction Superintendent credential is dependent on two criteria:
- You must successfully pass the NCCER Construction Superintendent Certification assessment.
- You must demonstrate that you meet the minimum experience requirements.
Please review the experience requirements listed below. Note that candidates for the Construction Superintendent certification do not have to meet these requirements to be eligible to take the courses and the assessment. However, NCCER will not issue your certification until you meet all requirements.
Minimum Requirements
Option 1:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Cumulative total of 4 years of relevant experience, as outlined below
Option 2:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university
Experience: Cumulative total of 2 years of relevant experience, as outlined below
Experience Requirements for Either Option
Relevant experience, regardless of job title, must be from periods during which:
- You were the leader and single point of responsibility for construction performance for an entire project OR a significant, defined major portion or a specific scope as a specialty contractor.
- Your specific areas of responsibilities included safety, cost, schedule, quality, compliance, resource management, site logistics, and contract partner relationship management.
